Healthcare Quality and Patient Safety
|
Introduction |
- The healthcare has become more effective at the same time it has also become more complex and involves the use of modern technologies, medicine, and treatment
- We are also now treating a greater proportion of older and sicker patients
- These factors, coupled with decreased financial resources in more settings, can result in errors
- The quality of any healthcare setting is its total system characteristics and without patient safety, there can be no quality of care
- Reducing and ultimately eliminating the medical errors is an urgent imperative in the healthcare organization
- Healthcare safety comprehends all healthcare setting and includes the patient and staff experience as well as the clinical, environmental and services aspects of safety
- Whether the focus is on medications or surgery, the goals are the same as to ensure patients are being treated in an absolutely safe environment
- The TQM concept in healthcare quality and safety is to achieve zero defects pursuing perfection
